You'll be welcomed by coach Dan and introduced to the group. Classes run between 90 minutes and two hours and follow a structure of warm-up, technique demonstration and practice, specific sparring, and rolling. There's no obligation to spar — but if you want to give it a go, coach Dan will be your first roll so you're in safe hands.

What do I need to bring for my first class?
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is a grappling-based martial art that focuses on ground fighting and submission techniques. Rather than relying on size or strength, BJJ teaches you to use leverage and technique to control and submit your opponent. It's an incredible workout for both body and mind, and it's one of the most practical martial arts for real-world self-defence. Whether you're looking to build confidence, get fit, or compete — BJJ has something for everyone.

I'm on holiday, can I drop in?
Not at all! The majority of our members started with zero experience. You'll join in with regular classes from day one, and our coach Dan along with your training partners will make sure you're looked after. Everyone learns at their own pace and the atmosphere is supportive — we were all beginners once.
What are the facilities like?
We train at Munlochy Village Hall, a heated community hall with toilets and a small kitchen. The club owns all the mats, which we set up before each session. There's parking at the hall and additional public parking a short walk down the road.
